Marks and Spencers have become one of just three companies to test out the new Instagram shopping feature in the UK.
It follows a successful year long trial in the US and also includes 7 other countries, Australia, Canada, Brazil, Germany, France, Italy and Spain.
M&S head of digital marketing Erin Roy said,
“Instagram Shopping offers us the opportunity to realise the huge potential of our 760,000 followers,”
As social media increases it’s influence over consumers, it’s expected we could see further changes which help businesses increase their sales and advertising opportunities
How Does Instagram Shopping Work?
Instagram accounts which want to sell their products on the social media website, will be able to setup a shopping page that includes a list of their products.
Each product on the shopping page will have at least one tag, which explains it’s name and price. This tag will be linked to a single product page which has a large image of the product, description and a “Shop Now” button which will link to the company’s website.
Instagram’s global head of business, Jim Squires, previous said,
“People come to Instagram every day to discover and buy products from their favourite businesses. We want to be that seamless experience. Whether it’s a local artisan, florist or clothing store, shopping directly on Instagram has never been easier.”
